[comp.sys.laptops] car battery power for laptop

I'd like to be able to use my car as a power supply for my Everex Tempo LX
notebook. Everex doesn't make an adapter for this purpose. I understand
there are converters which will produce 110 volts from which I could run
the power supply/charger, but the tech support person I talked to said there
could be problems with this method. I'd be grateful for any recommendations.

Any information you get on this problem, I'd love to know about. I
have an Epson LT, and no one seems to have to car battery converter any
more. I'm afraid to get a "universal" converter from Radio Shack, even
if it promises to deliver the right flavor of power. My AC converter
says it gives out DC15V, 2A, 30W, with the outer contact negative on
the plug. I leave in a week and a half on a cross-country trip; the
only way I can keep sane with two kids in the car is to be able to get
some work done. The 5-7 hour battery life that Epson claims is as
optimistic as usual - I can squeeze past 2 hours only on low-light
settings.
