After having worked in Europe for the last four years, I will be returning to the US to go to graduate school at UC Berkeley. I am interested in buying a laptop, and am starting to make a list of what I want/need. I would like to know from students (especially from those at Berkeley) as to whether univerisities typically offer laptops at "educational" prices, ie., cheap. Or do they simply offer the same deals that one can get in any discount computer store? Judging from the postings in this group, the market in the US is generally cheaper than here. In the danger of asking too general questions, what can one expect to pay for a 386 machine, with 4MB ram, 60MB hard disk, VGA, etc? Is there a good place to buy laptops in Berkeley if the university does not offer any good deals? If you find posting a response as not appropriate, please send me e-mail at andrew@hpbbn.bbn.hp.com. Thanks a lot.
