[comp.unix.i386] RPC's, scheduled DOS procedures

samperi@marob.masa.com (Dominick Samperi) (05/28/89)

I'm considering how one could use a 386 machine to schedule DOS subprocesses
that start up a comm program with a script language, to interact with a
remote service, download files, etc. Using DOS alone is messy: what happens
when a scheduled task starts up while somebody else is using the machine?!
I'd like to use some version of UNIX that has the capability of spawning DOS
subprocesses. Has anybody used this facility to schedule DOS comm program
sessions while the machine continues to be used for other purposes?

A somewhat unrelated topic is RPC's: has anybody used RPC's in a heterogeneous
network environment? UNIX and VMS mix, for example? Netwise's RPC generator?
