I am seeing problems running telnet on Bell Technologies ACE-8 async board; I am running 386/ix v.2.0.1, and the B.T. drivers is rev. 1.0 for 386/ix. I am running Interactive's Host-based TCP/IP r.1.0.1. with a WD8003E ethernet card. When telnet'ing, bits are getting dropped / shifted / whatever. This occurs when telnet'ing to either a remote host or to the local host; the percentage of affected characters is roughly 2-5% of the characters, i.e., if you hold the space bar down, you'll see ramdom characters several times per line. I have noticed this behavior on three different brands of machines (Zenith, Taiwanese clone, and 'Chan Smart!Ware' based on Monolithics's Mini-Mainframe). The other tcp utilities seem to work, i.e., rlogin, rcp. Does anyone have any clues as to why this may be happening? Does anyone have any helpful hints on isolating this problem? Is there some code which I could write to prove that this is a Bell Technologies driver bug? Warning: *** 200 MEGATON FLAME *** Radiation shields ON I give Bell Technologies (now Intel) EXTREMELY LOW MARKS. Let it be known that they have refused to assist me in this matter, stating that this problem is Interactive's problem. They essentially wrote me off *without attempting* to duplicate my environment (i.e., 386/ix w/HB-TCP/ip, their ACE cards); they state that since it works on *their* UNIX and *their* TCP/ip, that it is not *their* problem, putting the ball squarely back in my court with no-one to play ball. In other words, they *do not even care* that one of their customers is having a *legitimate* problem with their products. In my opinion, their "customer support" is a *farce* when it comes to solving problems beyond the simplistic. So now both I and my customers to whom I have resold the boards are out on a weak limb. As far as they are concerned, the problem I and my customers are seeing DOES NOT EXIST. Right. And the world is still flat. As far as I'm concerned, I would steer clear of companies like this. Their only redeeming hope is that Intel purchased them in May. Maybe what they need is a refreshing change in management, eh? If you are running ACE-8's under 386/ix w/telnet, I would like to hear about it. If you too find that you have problems like the one I am seeing, feel free to report it to Intel (Bell Tech) at 1-800-FOR-UNIX outside of CA. Any hints / suggestions / whatever would be greatly appreciated. -- Jerry Chan (Voice) 508-853-0747 |"My views necessarily reflect the Chan Smart!Ware Computer Services & Products | views of the Company because Worcester, MA 01606 | I *am* the Company." :-) {bu-cs,husc8,cloud9}!encore!chansw!chan \---------------------------------
