During July, AT&T announced four new 386 systems. Here's a summary of a ~35 page description of the system ... o AT&T 6386/SX WorkGroup System Low end/entry level machine A small footprint, Intel 16Mhz 80386SX-based, desktop workgroup system. The 32-bit internal structure of the 80386SX chip provides exceptional power to run all software designed for the 80386. The 16-bit data bus permits the plug-in of AT/XT expansion cards. The 24-bit address bus allows 16MB maximum of physical memory similar to the 80286. Key features: - AT-compatible bus - 2MB of RAM standard, expandable to 16MB (implemented with 100ns fast-paged 100ns 1MB SIMMS) - enclosures for three magnetic peripherals - four expansion slots (three 16-bit AT slots, one 8 bit XT slot) - two serial ports - one parallel port - clock/calendar - optional intelligent hard drive - intergrated super VGA video /mouse controller - 145 watt power supply - hardware implemented password protection with key lock - 101-key AT style keyboard w/speaker on/off capabilities - 1.44MB 3.5" floppy (standard) - 1.2MB 5.25" floppy (optional) - optional 40MB, 80MB hard disk - optional 125MB streaming tape w/QIC-120 and QIC-36 interfaces Configurations: CPU 301 - single floppy CPU with 3.5"/1.44MB floppy installed in A position. The configuration includes power cables and mounting rails for two additional magnetic peripherals. CPU 302 - same as CPU 301, plus 40MB/3.5" hard disk CPU 301 - same as CPU 301, plus 80MB/3.5" hard disk Warranty: One year mail-in/depot service, plus toll-free hotline support. An onsite warranty "uplift" is available for AT&T WGS systems. If an onsite service contract is purchased for the second year (one year beyond manufacturer's original), onsite service will be supplied FREE of charge during the manufacturer's one-year warranty. **************************************************************************** o AT&T 6386/25 WorkGroup System Newest most powerful desktop Intel 25Mhz 80386-based Key features: - AT-compatible bus - 4MB of RAM standard, expandable to 40MB, 64KB of cache memory (implemented with 100ns fast-paged 100ns 1MB SIMMS, eight SIMM sockets on motherboard [ie. up to 8MB on motherboard]) - 64KB fast static cache memory - enclosures for four magnetic peripherals - eight expansion slots (one XT, five XT/AT, two XT/AT/32-bit slots) - two serial ports (25-pin and 9-pin) - one parallel port - clock/calendar - up to 300MB/20ms ESDI drives - intergrated super VGA video /mouse controller - 220 watt power supply - hardware implemented password protection with key lock - 101-key AT style keyboard w/speaker on/off capabilities - 1.44MB 3.5" floppy (standard) - 1.2MB 5.25" floppy (optional) - optional 80MB ESDI HD <20ms access time, or 135MB ESDI HD <20ms access time, or 300MB ESDI HD <20ms access time - optional 125MB streaming tape w/QIC-120 and QIC-36 interfaces Configurations: CPU 311 - single floppy CPU with 3.5"/1.44MB floppy installed in A position. The configuration includes power cables and mounting rails for three additional magnetic peripherals. CPU 313 - same as CPU 313, plus 80MB hard disk CPU 314 - same as CPU 313, plus 135MB hard disk Warranty: (same as AT&T 6386/SX) **************************************************************************** o AT&T 6386/33 WorkGroup System New floor-standing unit Intel 33Mhz 80386-based (7.7 MIPS) Key features: (same specs as 6386/25, except for): - 33Mhz CPU - ten expansion slots (one XT, ten XT/AT, two XT/AT/32-bit slots) - 300 watt power supply Configurations: CPU 324 - single floppy CPU with 3.5"/1.44MB floppy installed in A position and 5.25" full- height 135MB ESDI hard disk. Includes power cables and mounting rails for three additional magnetic peripherals. CPU 325 - single floppy CPU with 3.5"/1.44MB floppy installed in A position and 5.25" full- height 300MB ESDI hard disk. Includes power cables and mounting rails for three additional magnetic peripherals. Warranty: (same as AT&T 6386/SX, 6386/25) **************************************************************************** o AT&T 6386/33 WorkGroup System Model S New floor-standing unit with SCSI interface Intel 33Mhz 80386-based (7.7 MIPS) Key features: (same specs as 6386/33, except for): - SCSI interface, instead of ESDI - 396 watt power supply - up to six internal magnetic peripherals - locking front access door, fault indicator LED 3 Configurations: (All configurations are fully integrated and tested before shipment to users. Additional peripherals and/or software loaded and tested at factory) o Configuration A: (Base) - 4MB RAM - 1.44MB 3.5" Floppy - 120MB Cartridge tape (SCSI) - 300MB Hard Disk (SCSI) - UNIX System V/386 Release 3.2.2 o Configuration B: (Multi-user) - 8MB RAM - 1.44MB 3.5" Floppy - 120MB Cartridge tape (SCSI) - 300MB Hard Disk (SCSI) - 16 ports (Intelligent 16-port board) - UNIX System V/386 Release 3.2.2 o Configuration C: (Network server) - 8MB RAM - 1.44MB 3.5" Floppy - 120MB Cartridge tape (SCSI) - 300MB Hard Disk (SCSI) - StarGROUP(tm) server software - UNIX System V/386 Release 3.2.2 - StarLAN 10 NAU - PMS/StarMAIL(tm) Software Optional hardware: - 155MB Internal SCSI Hard drive - 300MB Internal SCSI Hard drive - 600MB Internal SCSI Hard drive - 300MB External SCSI Hard drive - 1600/6250 bpi SCSI 9-track tape - 120MB External SCSI Cartridge Tape drive Warranty: The coverage for the end user/customer on the 6386E/33 WGS Model S will be one-year on site. Toll free hotline support also included. **************************************************************************** All machines will have the New Phoenix BIOS that will permit the 6386WGS products to have full alternate as well as remote console capability. The alternate console feature permits a local AT&T 605 terminal to be attached to an inbuilt serial port at 9600 baud and view POST messages, access BIOS setup routines, read boot messages, and read system messages. This alternate console feature permits a complete redirection of the system console, and thereby eliminates the need for a local video controller board, monitor, and keyboard. The remote console can also be a modem at 1200 baud.
