I have a 1977 Cutlass Supreme which has a very annoying hesitation problem. When the car is cold (i.e. warmed up for ~5 min or less) when trying to accelerate it sort of cuts out. It does not stall mind you, it just sounds and feels like it. When the accelerator is released, it picks back up again. The car runs great when it's warmed up. The only responses that I have been able to get are 'I don't know what the problem is' !@%$!!. Maybe I need a new mechanic. Just a little background; I had a new carb put on ~May, and a complete tune-up; the problem is worse in the winter, presumably because it takes longer to warm up. Has anyone had similar problems? Or can anyone give me a better answer than 'I don't know'? Any response (but that!!) will be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Chuck Privitera Computer Consoles Inc.

If you look at the choke cover, you will notice three lock screws and some arrows pointing to the rich and lean directions. On the housing, you will see some tick marks. The marks usually indicate 10 degrees F. Try setting the choke 10 deg. at a time until the problem goes away. S. Fintel ...!trsvax!jsf007

I have been into the carb several times and a mechanic has done the same thing with no results. The best that I can figure is the jets on the accelerator pump are too small for the engine (350) or the carb has an internal fault (blockage or hole). I was told to live with it or replace the carb. For the price of a carb, I'll live with it. David 'Tom Slick' Swank II
