#N:hp-cvd:2700004:000:306 hp-cvd!robert Nov 28 15:03:00 1983 I have heard that the Porsche 944 has an aluminum engine block. Is this true? Doesn't this mean that 1) The block won't last 100,000 miles and 2) I won't be able to turbocharge later? I'd appreciate any comment on this since I'm in the market. Thanks 1E+6, robert ..!hp-pcd!hp-cvd!robert

x The 944 has a Reynolds 390 die-cast-aluminum block with linerless bores and aluminum cylinder heads with in-line valves and hydraulic lifters. I don't know why this would mean that you coudn't turbocharge it later. Porsche itself is supposed to come out with a 944 turbo as an '85 model. Rumor has it that this car is very, very fast (faster than a 911) and will not be cheap. I don't know about your area, but the current wait for a 944 here in New England is about a year, unless you want to pay $2-4K over list. --Jim--
