I have been trying to talk to a second parallel port on my machine. I am running Interactive 2.0.1 on a Compaq 386/20. My problem is that I want to the second parallel port as a 'raw' port in which I am only concerned with the data lines. I would like to be able to send a bit pattern to the port to manipulate the lines. I have written a small program to access the port (/dev/lp2) but I keep getting a failure to open it with errno 6 (No such device). Using sysadm to add another printer, it tells me that I can use /dev/lp2 and I have added a printer on that device but still I cannot access /dev/lp2. So my questions are: 1.) How can I use the existing lp driver to access /dev/lp2 as stated above? 2.) Do I need to change any configuration files to make it available(i.e. sdevice or mdevice or even /usr/spool/lp/? )? 3.) Will the device connected to the port need to have any intelligence? Meaning are there any lines I need to hold high and such? Here is some info on my current state of my system. ls -l /dev/lp* crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 7, 1 Sep 18 17:28 /dev/lp crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 7, 0 Sep 19 10:14 /dev/lp0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 7, 1 Sep 18 17:28 /dev/lp1 crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 7, 2 Sep 18 17:28 /dev/lp2 /etc/conf/sdevice.d/lp lp Y 1 3 1 7 378 37f 0 0 /etc/conf/cf.d/mdevice . . . . . . lp Iocrwi iHc lp 0 7 1 2 -1 . . . . . . Also, yes the jumpers on the board are set for it to be used as a second parallel port.
