fritzz@lamont.ldgo.columbia.edu (fritz zaucker) (09/17/89)

Hi,
does somebody know editors running under X11 and where to get
then from? xedit which comes with ix/386 doesn't work very
well.
Thanks

for heavens sake, use emascs compiled for X11. if you dont have the
x11 development stuff i can make a "temacs" and an "xemacs" executable
available via anonymous ftp.

Rob Pike's "sam" editor is available from the AT&T Toolchest, and has
an X.V11 front end. It's wonderful - especially if what you want is
an *editor* - not another whole operating system pretending to be an
editor.

GNU emacs, compiled with X support, works pretty well if you have the
memory. It works great when run remotedly from a Sun 3/60 :-).

Email if you need to know where to get it, and also note that the file
fns.c will not work if compiled optimized, so compile this one file
unoptimized when building.
