I am currently in the market for a new car ( my first, after a succession of used ones). My priorities are as follows : a) Price : within or around $8K b) Reliability : This is of paramount importance as the memories of grad-student days still loom large; as my Fiat 131 ate half my assistantship stipend. Also, I will be in a situation where I have to drive around 500 miles/week. c) Performance : This includes handling, pep and all the good stuff. I hate econoboxes! If I had my druthers, I'd buy a Lamborghini. Unfortunately I'm forced to being practical. Cars I have considered include the following : 1) Dodge Shelby Charger. 2) Plymouth Turismo 2.2 3) Dodge Omni ( with the 2.2 litre engine) 4) Honda Civic. Presently I am tending towards the Dodge cars due to the 5 year, 50K mile warranty. Also, repairs will probably be cheaper. Honda, however has an excellent reputation for quality. Another factor is that I'm going to need these a new car soon; and Dodge is likely to deliver faster. Does anyone have any specific information about any or all these cars? Has anyone had experience with the Shelby Charger specifically? (Thats the one I'm tending towards). Please reply by mail. Any answers will be greatly appreciated.
