[comp.unix.i386] SCO Unix 3.2 printer problems

rickf@pmafire.UUCP (rick furniss) (11/30/89)

   Setup: Gateway 2000 386-25 running SCO Unix3.2
Problem: Printer /dev drops any bytes with 8th bit set, (above 7f hex).
   Example: cat datafile_with8bitdata >/dev/lp

All 8bit data is lost, only 7bit data arrives at port.
Keep in mind that the 8th bit is not droped, but rather the whole
byte is droped if the 8th bit is set !!!!.

With the printer setup to display hex data as it arrives,
unable to get the /dev/lp to pass graphics data. Have messed with
mapchan, stty -istrip cs8 -parity, etc , & bye passed the spooler
altogether. Have tried it with sleep < /dev/lp, and spooler running &
    spooler shut down.

The printer port works fine with 8 bit data running under mess-DOS,
just under SCO Unix its dead.

Any help appreciated.
