Apparently, Chrysler is looking at ressurcting the Panterra and powering it with a Chrysler 360 V8 engine. I don't know the details of why or when, but the info came from the latest Popular Mechanics magazine. If I remember correctly, it had something to do with Chrysler wanting a fast ticket into the sport/fast car market. Sounds plausible. In his R&T interview Lee Iaccoca had some nice things to say about the Pantera being a lot of car for the money (in the early 70's) and selling used for "$28K". Since the Pantera is still available in Europe (I think) throwing a Chrysler engine into it and federalizing it here would be a cheap way for Chryler to offer something in the Corvette class. He also liked the Maserati Biturbo but we probably won't see a 260hp, twin-turbo V-12 Horizon soon.

They are working on something similar to the old Pantera, but I haven't heard about an actual V-8 Pantera revival. AC (yes, the Cobra people) have a mid-engined sports car out powered by a transverse Austin engine or some such. They will be importing these and dropping in the turbocharged 2.2, I think by Spring or Summer. -Joe P.

Someone mentioned the Pantera a little while ago. Wasn't the original powered by the Ford Cleveland 351 V8 (not the 351 Windsor that went into the Mustangs of that era). This car has always had a special attraction for me. I liked the idea of having a 220 hp. "feren sports car" that could have any relatively major engine repairs done at a Ford dealership in Peoria, Ill :-). Does anyone have any other information on the new Pantera?
