[net.auto] buying in europe

bentonh@tekig.UUCP (Benton Holzwarth) (12/15/83)

I've heard that, in single quantities at least,
you don't need to 'federalize' the engine in cars
you import yourself. Only the safety equipment needs
to be installed, that is, more steel in the doors,
safty-glass all around, and (2.5mph?) bumpers.

    I've heard $2k to $3k quoted for bringing a
euro-cruiser to US spec.

I always thought the advantage in going to europe
for a car was that there are so many models and options
that they don't import to this country. BMW had 4 engine
and 3 manual transmission choices for the 32x cars, with
both carburated and injected engines. Or how 'bout the
M635i, if you're in the market for a luxo- autobahn rocket.

Has anyone looked into buying a used car over there?
In Germany, at least, there is a club, (sort of the AAA)
that will inspect a car and report on their impression of
its worth for a flat fee.

Has anyone looked into the regulations recently?
