Intel is supposed to have a new version of X11R3 out about now; based on a conversation I had with Shannon Miller of Intel in early December. The version that they've been shipping is the same X11R2 that they started shipping in April/May of '89, about the time they got absorbed into Intel. The Bell Tech line of hardware is pretty much an orphan now; Intel will fix it, but that's it (based again on talking to Shannon). I had a problem with my update for Bell Tech 3.2; they sent me 3.2 UNIX, but 3.2u DOSMerge (back in June '89). Took me a while to notice it; I finally got around to putting the update from 3.0 to 3.2 on in September, and couldn't get DOSMerge to install. After some thrashing around trying to find an opening in Intel that would acknowledge that UNIX existed, I finally got hold of Shannon, who spearheaded getting me a free update to 3.2u. Probably took six weeks to get the disks in hand, and several hours on the phone. They give you (free) an hour to several hours of service (depends on the product) on the phone for the upgrade; after that it's pay for service. They do have service available; they sent me a letter outlining it. So, I guess that you can get (decent) service from Intel on the Bell Tech port; the question is what will we see in the future?
