[comp.unix.i386] getty problems with x5 update and telebit trailblazer

max@lgc.lgc.com (Max Heffler @ Landmark Graphics) (02/11/90)

I have successfully used the acu1 port for outbound traffic from my Telebit
on a Compaq 386/25 running 386/ix 2.0.2 with the x5 update.  I have not
been successful with the getty on ttyd1. When I set it up per the
documentation, the modem will answer, but ps -ef shows getty still running
but no login prompt is offered, and the caller appears hung.

My /etc/conf/init.d/asy is:
# Telebit Trailblazer on ttyd1
01:2345:respawn:/etc/getty -t 60 ttyd1 TB8-19200

I performed idmkinit and tested it successfully using telinit q

My Dialers has:
tbfast  =W-,    "" A\pA\pA\pA\pA\pT OK ATx3s0=0s64=1s50=255DT\T FAST-\c-FAST
tbinit  =W-,    "" A\pA\pA\pA\pA\pT OK ATs51=254 OK

My Devices has:
ACU acu1 - 9600 tbfast \T
ACU acu1 - 19200 tbfast \T
ACU tbinit - 19200 tbinit \T

and I successfully dial on on acu1, including cu and uucp.

My gettydefs has:

Does anybody have any clues as to why the getty does not give a login prompt
and or what methods are there for testing further the operation on the Compaq
when the login prompt is not produced? Help...

Thanx in advance

well they moved one of the registers in 5.0
you probably have the modem set for Q4 which will fight with getty make Q6
ala ATQ6......&W
also register S53 is S131 in 5.0
so if your setting S53 ( to track DCD) your modem just eats the instruction
and tries to force DCD true!!!!
so you can call out but not in
hope this helps
this drove me crazy for 2 weeks till I found out that S53 does not exist
