-- I've noticed that Illinois has engaged in a systematic campaign of de-Lincolnization. Years back, the "Land of Lincoln" motto was in raised letters, at least 1" high. Now you need a magnifying glass to make it out. What's up--is it embarrassing or something? -- *** *** JE MAINTIENDRAI ***** ***** ****** ****** 01 Feb 84 [12 Pluviose An CXCII] ken perlow ***** ***** (312)979-7261 ** ** ** ** ..ihnp4!ihuxq!ken *** ***

Ken Perlow has noticed that the state of Illinois seems to be de-emphasising the "Land of Lincoln" on its license plates. Perhaps it's because someone pointed out that Lincoln was born in Kentucky, raised in Indiana, and spent just about all of his time in Illinois trying to get sent to Washington.
