[comp.unix.i386] 486, Chantal, Excellan, Oracle: HELP!

tom@tandon.UUCP (Tom Friel) (03/28/90)

Help, o netland!

HW configuration: Tandon 486 25Mhz, 16MB, mono card & display, 3 Adaptec
1540's, 6 CDC 600MB Wren drives, Excellan 205 ethernet card, HC floppy from
motherboard controller.

SW configuration: Xenix 2.3.2GT, Chantal SCSI driver kit, Excellan driver
kit, gigantic Oracle application requiring Excellan board.

Problems:

1) Xenix does not boot at high speed, cache on or off. Will boot at low speed
(8Mhz) with and without cache enabled. Will not boot at "throttled" 16Mhz
with cache on. Obviously suspect Chantal drivers, cache operations seem to
be o.k. Tandon 486 has run Xenix/ISC Unix for days o.k. with Adaptec
controllers in the past at high speed: Tandon ships Adaptec as standard.

2) In scenarios when Xenix DOES boot, Excellan SW starts up just fine, daemons
start up fine, Oracle (which opens some sockets) starts fine. Problem occurs
when "telnet"-ing or "ftp"-ing from a client: no response. Possibly suspect
IRQ2?

Addendum:

1) At same site, ISC 2.0.2 using Adaptec 1540, Micom ethernet board, and
Chantal drivers operates fine at all speeds on Tandon 486, including network
"ftp" & "telnet" functions.

2) All the stuff in 1) and 2) above are running successfully in Compaq 25.

Got all that? Any clues with the peripheral hardware and software?
Thanks a lot to anyone willing to contact me! I'm off to my ICE's.
