A few weeks back, somebody asked for a list of states where auxiliary
driving lights are illegal. Just by chance, I ran across the answer
and thought I'd post it in case the poster still needs to know:

According to an article in Mechanix Illustrated (8/82), auxiliary
driving lights are illegal in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota.

I'm not 100% sure of this, but at one time I was interested in
putting some auxiliary driving lights on my car in Oklahoma, and
was informed that up to two (2) auxiliary lights would be legal here.

there is a similar "maximum number of lights" law in Illinois, i believe at
4 (maybe 6) lights directed forward on the car. there is also a maximum
mounting height (something like 60 inches)! i am not real sure of the
exact reading of either of these, but i know they exist due to a
discussion a few months ago with an assistant district attorney.
