I and others have had ongoing problems with the Version 2.x tape drivers supplied by Archive Coporation for their Viper series QIC tape drives and controllers under ISC UNIX 3.2.2. Note: This does NOT apply to their SCSI drives. The most consitent symptoms include controller lockups and hung processes that cannot be killed other than by reinitializing the init state. Archive has recently updated their drivers however, I was told by a knowlegeable source that they're nearly identical to the old ones and are not worth installing. At this point I would like to ask any users on the net that if you are having problems with the Archive QIC tape drivers to send me a short descrption of the problem and a simple request to have them fixed. I will assemble the requests and send them to the Engineering Departemt at Archive Corporation along with a letter explaining and requesting an update. I'm not sure if they're listening on the net. -- Gary M.
