Hi, I have an EVEREX 60MB (DC600A cartridge style) tape back-up unit. I have two systems: one running AT&T Unix/386 Rev3.2.2 one running MSDOS V3.3 I need to move data between both systems using the tape drive. EVEREX says that I can just plug a controller in the UNIX box and use the drive. The problem is that the software they provide for DOS is NOT available for UNIX/386, and though I can get source for Tar to port it to DOS, EVEREX says that the information I need to do this is proprietary and they won't give it to me. They also won't give me the information about the data format their DOS software uses on the tape (this would allow me to write a program for UNIX that did what their DOS software does). Either of the above two methods is acceptable to me; EVEREX just seems to be uncooperative in these matters, and hence, I turn to the USENET world for help, insight, etc,. It seems to me that, since UNIX/386 already has the appropriate built-in driver for the tape drive (probably QIC-02), I should be able to find someone somewhere who either has, or knows of a piece of software (either public domain or for money) that I can get to solve my problem. Please respond via EMAIL to the address below. If anyone is interested besides me, I'll post the results at a later date, or else the interested parties can just send me EMAIL requesting the responses I get (if any). Thanks. -- Eugene J.
