This past weekend I had the intensely unpleasant experience of driving about 50 miles in pea-soup fog, at night, some of it on very dark, lonely country roads. Thankfully, I know the roads very well. Most of the time I couldn't see more than 10 yards ahead, sometimes even less. I did manage to keep the car on the road, but I would have been hamburger if there had been any kind of obstruction. I would like to know if I could have gotten any real help from fog lights on my car. I know that, in theory, the yellow light is less dispersed by the fog, and that lights mounted low on the car supposedly illuminate the road better. However, I'm skeptical about any kind of light helping in the kind of stuff I was driving in the other night. Are fog lights really useful, then, or are they mainly just for show? If anybody out there has had favorable experiences with fog lights, I'd like to know: 1) How to mount and aim them for maximum visibility, without blinding oncoming traffic. 2) What's a good name? I could get the local Honda dealer to install fogs on my '82 Accord, but I suspect I might be able to do better by picking my own brand. -- Bob Fishell ihnp4!ihu1g!fish
