[net.auto] WHAT NEW CAR TO BUY, OH MY

norris@eosp1.UUCP (Cindy Norris) (02/17/84)

To all of you who have requested a summary of what
information I got off the net concerning a new auto-
I got lots of great responses WHICH I will gladly
summarize at the beginning of next week (I need the
weekend to go over the stuff). I STILL HAVE NOT
BOUGHT A CAR, as I need to investigate some of the
recommedations. I can say that the most mentioned
favorites for reliability are the Japanese models
like the Honda Accord, Nissan (Datsun), etc. I can
also say I am not alone in my feelings that NJ dealers
are weird at the least and possibly crummy. I had a
bad experience with Burns Pontiac/Honda in Cherry Hill
(Marlton). (Can I get sued for this kind of thing?).
Along with some of the badies, I will perhaps be able
to tell you some of the dealerships that seemed above-
board and decent to deal with. Preliminary data on
cars favored by net users (not necessarily in priority
order) are the following:
	     HONDA (ACCORD, primarily)
	     NISSAN SENTRA
	     MAZDA GLC
	     VW JETTA GLI
These seem to be the most frequently mentioned. I only
had one gung-ho OMNI/HORIZON respondent, and some people
have mentioned that the Dodge/Chrysler products are not
so reliable and that is WHY they give you this extended
warranty! My present car, a battle-scarred 1972 Dodge
Dart is a car that has nine lives. I have 158,000 miles
on it, and it will not quit! If anyone knows anyone
interested in buying this gem, please let me know (maybe
with a phone number or snail mail location so I can find
you). Anyhow, I have had such good luck with this Dodge,
I find it hard to believe Lee would put out a BAD product.
I know for sure that a OMNI or HORIZON would not cost as
much as any of the Japanese sedans, and that an Amer. car
dealer is likely to be in a bargaining mood, so a good
price should be a "given". Still, I don"t want a car that
spends a lot of time in the shop!!! If there are any more
OMNI or HORIZON-types out there, I'd love to hear from you
on your service history! ---More next week----Sorry this
is so long, I am a wordy Gemini.
