The installation I am working with consists of - AST premium 386 33 mhz - 8 meg ram - SCSC adaptech 1542 controller with 680 meg formatted drive - ethernet 503 card - everex tape backup card, wangtech compatable - Interactive Unix ver 2.0.0.2 - Interactive Unix tcp/ip The first problem occurcs with the aabove configuration along with the installation of either Sybase or Oracle database running a transaction simulation. It seems within minutes of starting the simulation the machine completely locks up requiring us to reboot the machine. A suggestion that the AST machine was using caching was possibley the problem, so we turned off caching and the simulation ran for a considerable length of time using Oracle. However, under Sybase strange things to happen when there is a great deal of usage on the machine, it will at times destroy the db server process or sometime even cause the machine to completely reboot ! I would guess from the above that if caching is our problem that it is not the only one. Has Anyone had problem with 386ix and the AST 386 33 with cache. Is anyone running a configuration similar to this one with luck. -- Randy Steeves
