I need some advice on how long I should wait to wax my car after it gets a new paint job. I was involved in an accident a few weeks back in which my trunk and both quarter-panels were damaged. They will be repaired and repainted next week, but I'm not sure how long I should give the paint to dry (the rest of the car badly needs waxing, which is why I even thought about waxing it in the first place). I thought I'd seen someone mention 4-6 weeks as a good waiting period, but I'm posing the question to you auto gurus to make sure. Thanks in advance for your help, Bob Paveleck ihldt!paveleck

I had a similar happening and went to a very conservative (2nd generation) body place that came very highly recommended (and was worth it too). The guy told me not to wax for SIX MONTHS and not to wash the car for 90 days (maybe it was 30 days). The job he did was so amazing I figured he knew what he was talking about. Even after that amount of time, a bit of paint was visible on the wipe-up rag. Good paint takes a long time to dry. After almost 2 years, you still cannot see the difference from factory paint, and this was on a car that was only a few weeks old. Dave Fiedler {zeppo, astrovax, philabs}!infopro!dave P.S.
