I noticed the recent discussion about DTK motherboards and ISC version 2.2. I was considering buying ISC v2.2, but I own the older DTK KEEN 2000 motherboard; so naturally, I am concerned. Do these problems relate strictly to the newer PEM2500 board, or would they be evident on my non-cacheing KEEN2000 board as well? In other words, does anyone know if version 2.2 works on a DTK KEEN 2000 (20mhz) machine?? If there are problems, does anyone know if ESIX runs well on a DTK KEEN 2000? - Any info is appreciated - - Dave Rivers - -- | Time sharing: The use of many | - Dave Rivers - SAS Institute, Cary NC | | people by the computer. | UUCP: ...!mcnc!rti!sas!sastdr (work) | | | ...!mcnc!ponds!rivers (home) |

I must have missed that discussion. I have a DTK 25MHz board with 64K cache and have no problems running ESIX; I can't think of any reason that ESIX would not run without a cache. -- David A. A 25 Mhz cache board purchased one year ago (PEM2500?) runs ISC 2.0.2 ok, but fails randomly with 1542 SCSI board though it passes the board's on-board tests: I finally had to swap it out. An older Wedge motherboard (20 Mhz, no cache) is less flashy but runs reliably. I have heard of people having problems with DTK boards with DTK BIOS, if you use a NON-DTK BIOS there should be no problem (i.e. Phoenix or AMI). If you are planning on buying a new computer and ESIX or any other UNIX the best is to get the OS and try the boot disk on the system before you buy it. -- Jeff Ellis ESIX SYSTEM/V UUCP:uunet!zardoz!everex!jde US Mail: 1923 St. Andrew Place, Santa Ana, CA 92705

I just installed ISC 2.2 on my system: DTK PEM2500 motherboard 4 Mb memory WD1007WAH controller Miniscribe 9380E I've installed vpix, s/w dev sys, tenplus plus some other riff-raff with no problems (well, it did take me awhile to get the low level formatting correct). I've run the byte benchmarks, and I'll post the results if there's any interest. Re: problems with DTK 2500. Rumour has that there are/where problems with the BIOS and Novell. ISC hadn't listed the DTK motherboards on the 2.2 compatibility list because they hadn't tested them yet (of course they can't tell you if it failed or just wasn't tested). DTK tested ISC on Mar 9 (didn't know which version) ok. Can't say anything about the KEEN 2000. -- Dave Bullis Cognos, Inc VOICE: (613) 738-1440 3755 Riverside Dr. P.O.
