Has anyone out there had any experience with after market go fast stuff like turbo kits? I am curious about quality and difficulty of installation.

I have heard that bolt-on turbos have a tendancy to flatten crankshafts and break U-joints, but they do work and they are a pain to install.

#R:druxv:-131900:ccvaxa:4900030:000:564 ccvaxa!rmiller Feb 19 21:58:00 1984 bolt on turbos are very trendy toys among some of the car clubs (i am thinking in particular of the Rx-7 club) and can provide some wonderful performance boosts, but be careful about how much boost because the engines that these things bolt on to are usually not designed for the higher temperatures involved. if you buy one, be sure to do so from someone who has been around for awhile and worked with your car and engine type. otherwise, you may blow it up sooner than might be appreciated. even then, wear will be increased quite a bit. uiucdcs!ccvaxa!rmiller

[] One of the best turbocharging kit companies (at least they come highly recommended) is Callaway Turbosystems, 4 High St., Old Lyme, Ct. 06371. They not only offer turbo charging kits for not turbo charged cars but they also offer a kit called the Bump-Up System that is designed to add up to 30% more power to factory turbocharged cars. I think it is some kind of intercooler kit. Their phone number is (203)-434-9002. This is not a testimonial and I have no stock in the company. cheers...
