karp-brad@CS.Yale.EDU (Brad Karp) (07/19/90)
I've recently installed my Interactive UNIX Workstation Developer 2.2 update, and have noticed some rather annoying behavior related to finger under TCP/IP. It's possible that previous versions of 386/ix have had this same problem; I didn't install TCP/IP on the old version. When I use X, and start a few xterms which make logins on ttyp ports, and then logout of the ttyp sessions, finger karp@softshop still shows the sessions that have been terminated, and thinks that they are just idle. I suppose that what is happening is that /etc/utmp or /etc/wtmp are not being cleared properly after the ttyp sessions are terminated. Does anyone have a fix or workaround for this problem? It's not preventing me from getting any work done, but is still rather annoying. Replies either in news or mail are welcome.
