[comp.unix.i386] VP/ix DDAs under ESIX

john@jwt.UUCP (John Temples) (07/08/90)

I just installed VP/ix (version 1.1.0 -- the one that came with 386/ix version
1.0.6) on my ESIX (rev. D) system. Everything works fine, except I can no
longer get my Logitech bus mouse to work as a DDA. It worked fine under
386/ix. When VP/ix starts, it says "Unable to open generic device /dev/logi"
The device was successfully created by sysadm ddainstall, and the permissions
are ok. Is there a trick to getting this to work? Or do I need to buy a
newer version of VP/ix?

And while composing this message, I discovered that I can't switch to another
virtual console from a VP/ix session...

To use a DDA with VP/ix you need a vdi driver, ISC has this as part of its base
and AT&T gives this when you buy Simultask (AT&T's copy of VP/ix)
You can't use /dev/logi do to the fact ESIX does not have a generic mouse driver
with SYSV3.2.

Try "<ALT-SYSRQ> <Function Key>" just like changing VT's on ICS....

Except that the console is <ALT-SYSRQ>h. <ALT-SYSRQ> <F1> is the
second virtual console. Also <ALT-SYSRQ>p is the previous console
and <ALT-SYSRQ>n is the next console, although as I recall the order
is not what I expected.

The order is whatever order they are chained in. If you want to make
sure that VT_NEXT moves VT01, VT02, VT03 etc, make sure you are sitting
on VT01 when you launch VT02 and so forth.
