[comp.unix.i386] 386/ix and Matrox PG-1281-CV graphics board?

gb7@prism.gatech.EDU (Joe Bradley) (08/02/90)

Well I just received my hot new graphics board, a Matrox PG-1281-CV
(1280x1024x256). I rebuilt my kernel with the Matrox driver ISC
supplied with v2.0.2, and built a new X server for it while
eagerly lusting after X in beautiful 8-bit color. I popped that
baby in the machine, rebooted and ...... whoa, what's this? The machine
won't boot! Not even a "Booting the UNIX system" message. Matrox says
"none of our UNIX people are here today. I'll see if I can find someone
who knows something about UNIX and have them call you back." This doesn't
sound too promising. So as usual, I turn to the net for assistance.

Does anyone have this board working in their system with 386/ix? I believe
the standard ISC driver was written for the PG-1281, before the CV version
was released. However, I am under the impression it is backwards compatible.

If anyone knows how to make this board work with ISC, I would appreciate
some helpful hints.
