I am trying to design a Unix-based computer system for our office in Tokyo and have some questions. In the U.S. we use 386 machines equipped with Unix along with serial terminals, as this gives greatest cost/performance. I have talked to SRI, who sells a Japanese version of Interactive Unix, but they say they only sell on an OEM basis. I also wonder how many Japanese applications have been ported to 386 Unix. The impression I get from reading "Unix Magazine" here is that workstations have a large majority of the the domestic Unix market. But they are rather expensive (even more so than in the U.S.). Which brings me to the subject of cutting costs by using terminals. I have seen kanzi terminals hooked to point-of-sale systems and the like so I know they exist. Does anyone know if any of the workstations or 386 Unix systems marketed here support serial kanzi terminals? I would rather not have to buy an X terminal for each desk just to be able to display characters. Any assistance from someone with this kind of knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks. -- Jim Gottlieb Info Connections, Tokyo, Japan _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_ <jimmy@pic.ucla.edu> or <jimmy@denwa.info.com> or <attmail!denwa!jimmy> Fax: +81 3 237 5867 Voice Mail: +81 3 222 8429
