OS: SCO UNIX 3.2 This morning I noticed that I had apparently received mail from my uunet uucp connection. uulog | tail said: uucp uunet (8/2-23:30:53,5504,0) SUCCEEDED (call to uunet ) uucp uunet (8/2-23:31:11,5504,0) OK (startup ttyFM01) ... my outgoing mail deleted... uucp uunet (8/2-23:31:32,5504,4) REMOTE REQUESTED (uunet!D.uunetBYWN2 --> cichlid!D.uunetSYWN2 (daemon)) uucp uunet (8/2-23:31:38,5504,5) REMOTE REQUESTED (uunet!D.uunetXYWN0 --> cichlid!X.uunetCYWN3 (daemon)) uucp uunet (8/2-23:31:41,5504,6) REMOTE REQUESTED (uunet!D.uunetBZIG2 --> cichlid!D.uunetSZIG2 (daemon)) uucp uunet (8/2-23:31:46,5504,7) REMOTE REQUESTED (uunet!D.uunetXZIG0 --> cichlid!X.uunetCZIG3 (daemon)) uucp uunet (8/2-23:31:51,5504,8) OK (conversation complete ttyFM01 107) However, no mail was to be found! The files in /usr/spool/mail were all empty. The directory /usr/spool/uucp/uunet was empty. There were no new files in /usr/spool/uucppublic. I am the only user of this machine. Questions: 0. Does this look like incoming mail? I have no news feed from uunet. Note that the sending user is daemon. 1. Is this an mmdf screwup? I seem to recall some flaming of mmdf. 2. If yes, what should I replace mmdf with? I can get smail and sendmail from uunet. Will these replace mmdf? 3. Is there any way to recover this mail if it was mail? Other comments?
