I have a 1980 Toyota Celica with 50k miles on it. Car runs good and has given me no problems. However, at 50-60 mph there is a highly audible (as well as extremely annoying) vibration. I have had the usual things done such as tire balancing (high speed computer), front end alignment and front to back swapping of tires. No results. The tires are not stock (Michelin-X radials). I test drove another 1980 Celica and found that it had the same vibration. Is this something peculiar to the car? Anyone else have a similiar experience? Also, does anyone know if Toyota Motors, LTD. plans to do anything about the side window scratching problem? If you look at any 1980, 81 Celica, (at least in New Hampshire), you will notice diagonal streaks beginning at the bottom of the window and running diagonally upwards toward the front of the car. They become fainter as they run upward. It looks like they are caused by a poor window cranking mechanism design. These streaks are the same kind that you get if the windshield wiper blade wears down and is not replaced. They can't be removed and ruin the appearance of the window.
