How does one go about getting a traffic light installed? This case is not exactly as straightward as "I don't want my children hit by cars while running across the street." There is a place in NJ that is just begging for a light. It is not the usual place for a light but I think it would help traffic flow greatly. I am constantly amazed by the stupidity of highway planners. This spot annoys me every day on my way home. Whoever thought that a stop sign would be effective was on drugs. For all you people who drive home on 287 to the GSP you know the very spot I speak of-the merge at the bottom of the ramp that is always a zoo. For the rest of you, be glad you don't know where it is. Any info on how to convince whomever that a light might be a good idea would be appreciated. Sharon Badian

# Since the spot where you want a traffic light is on Garden State Parkway property, you might try talking to the Parkway people first. Since they are about to f*ck up (oops! I mean fix.) the Parkway bridge southbound like they did northbound, they may even have something in mind themselves. Larry Geary AT&T Information Systems Holmdel, NJ ...houxb!lmg

The way that DEC Hudson got its traffic light (back after the town of Hudson, MA set it to blinking mode) was to hire an off duty policeman to direct traffic there during rush hours. I realize that most people do not have the resources to do this, so I offer another solution. I heard that the number of accidents had increased dramatically when the light was changed to blinking! If you can find a similar intersection that has a traffic light then get yourself some accident statistics and massage the data correctly you might be able to convince them!
