I recently loaded dostex up on my pc, installed it successfully and all that. But the dvieps (dvi file to .eps file for printing on epson 9 pin printers) program doesn't work right. I checked the dvi file via dvi2herc (which does work) and also sent it to be displayed and printed on other devices with no problem. Printing the .eps file is an experience, lots of formfeeds, stray symbols, an occasional half (top half) line. I checked the .eps file and it is clearly garbled. The counts in graphics mode of columns are sometimes wrong and in one case the file quickly turns into an infinite repeat of a nonsense pattern (lots of @ and ~ on the paper). I ftp'ed a different copy of dvieps from the Utah archive and ran it with the same effects. My machine: PC XT Turbo clone with no 8087 (documentation indicates that the software automatically detects this and uses its own routines-maybe there's a problem there). The dvieps programs: Both give "Version 2.10 [experimental]" headers. "Newer" is 107764 bytes. "Older" is around 78K bytes. If anyone out there in net land has a working dvi-to-epson printer program I'd be glad to get a copy/find out the magic command or whatever. Also, since I have a 24 pin LQ500, presumably there might be a faster/better version for these kinds of printers. (The LQ500 can print any LX/FX type file.) Thanks for listening and, hey, stay on the right side of the road. ftg@gatech.edu
