[net.auto] Bronco II, Mileage

To all who responded:

Thanks for your comments on the Bronco, although nobody who
responded owns one. I'll remember the input and use it. I
wanted the info because I am doing a road test column for a local
paper and figured a good way to get a wide variety of opinions is to
solicit (is that the right word?) them on the net. The Bronco was my
first car, next is a Mark VII, Caravan, CRX, Saab something, Turbo
T-Bird, GLC, Fuego, SVO Mustang, Mazda 626, etc. Looks as if it
might be fun, but work, for the next couple of weeks. My feelings on
the Bronco were about the same as yours with the Blazer, Marc, except
smaller. I got a fully-loaded Eddie Bauer version (speed control,
pretty seats, 5-speed, sun roof, etc) and enjoyed bashing around the
mountains. We had snow and an ice storm just before and while I got
it so it was a good test.

Thanks again for your info. I liked the TR-7 when they introduced
it, too, but haven't driven one since.

Now, for some mileage info:

I put over 200 miles on the Bronco II (2.8-liter V-6) and
got 13.4. I think this can honestly translate to over 18 mpg with
some care. Don't forget, I was doing everything I could with the car
in as short a period of time as possible.

	My own vehicle is a 1978 Chevrolet Sportvan with a 350 V-8.
We average 12.75 mpg overall, with spurts to 15 plus on trips. The
best we ever got was 17.7 eastbound (downhill) through Nebraska in '79. I
commute three miles(!) one way to work and the muffler doesn't get
hot in the winter.

If this discussion continues, I'll supply info on some of
the other cars I get to play with.

Thanks again for any input you've ben able to supply.
