dak@ihuxn.UUCP (Dave Krunnfusz) (03/12/84)

I would like to hear what kind of discounts (or premiums UGH!) one
can expect on the following list of cars. The car we buy will be
adequately equipped, not extravegant nor spartan.

	1) Audi 4000
	2) VW Rabbit GTI
	3) Honda Accord LX (4 door)
	4) Honda Civic (4 door)
	5) Mazda 626 LX (4 door)
	6) Mazda 626 LX (5 door Touring Sedan)
	7) Chrysler Lazer
	8) Dodge Daytona

Any info at all will be appreciated.

The soon appearing "Auto Issue" of Consumer Reports (either Apr, May, or
Jun - I forget which) contains pretty good information on computing the
actual price of the car versus what you most likely are to be charged. The
formulas are updated annually and I have found them to be fairly accurate.

I found that the yearbook on 1984 cars from "Consumer's Guide"
magazine to be very helpful in determining list price and buying price.
They list the retail price, the dealer invoice, and what they considered
a "low" price. This includes the base car and options. For $3.95, this
is a real good book.

The April issue of "Consumer Reports" is a very good source of info on buying
a car, new or used. The should still be on the newsstands.
