The recent spate of postings to this otherwise quiet group made me wonder if CDC is moving into the entertainment industry? ;-) Well, now that things have woken up, I would like to pose a question: Has anybody out there had any experience of using 'standalone' CDCnet? i.e. a whole lot of DI's using a Sun workstation to manage, configure and download the CDCnet software? We have two rather aged 170-825's running NOS and Plato, and will be phasing them out over the next 18 months or so (too expensive to run), but have a fair amount of CDCNet equipment that it would be nice to hang on to as TCP/IP based 'terminal servers'. Using the async passthrough feature, it is already fulfilling this role on our ethernet backbone. Is this a viable thing to do, or would it be more sensible to go for specialised hardware? Are there any other exotic capabilities that it could be used for, given that there probably won't be any other CDC hardware on site? -- F.F.
