Nothing lasts for ever. Ammunition eventually degrades with time. The high explosives chemically degrade as do the propellants. At some point, ammunition is considered be "unreliable". Are shells stamped like cereal boxes: "Better if used before DEC 1992"? Does anyone know any "rule of thumb" storage time limits? for small arms ammo? for artillery shells? for rockets and missiles? for rockets and missiles, stored in sealed canisters? (eg Harpoon) for bombs? for torpedos? for nukes? (eg tritium decay) for chemical warheads? for binary chemical warheads?
