I grew up driving only automatic transmission and thus didn't learn how to drive a manual until about a year ago. I did take to it well enough to make sure that I got manual transmission on the car (5-speed Civic 4-door) I recently purchased. Although I'm reasonably competent at shifting (read: I ain't killed nobody...yet), I'm sure that I'm no master at any of the finer points. Bringing us to the request: what tips are people willing to pass on for driving with a manual transmission? I'm thinking mainly in terms of techniques that may help with gas mileage, save wear & tear on the clutch, etc., but I'm sure there are other possible benefits of which I'm not aware. My owner's manual recommends upshifting at 15/25/40/55 mph, which I've noticed is roughly 3000 rpm in each gear. Are there any reasons to doubt this advice? Oh, yes, although this probably won't cut down on the number of posted followups, PLEASE MAIL RESPONSES. I *will* post a summary of replies in a week or two. Promise. -- "If you lived here, you'd be home by now." Steve Knight {seismo, allegra, some other sites}!rlgvax!knight
