I don't know which of these might have been mentioned...
WWII: The Japanese used shallow-draft decoy vessels, so subs firing torps
would shoot to deep, then ofted waste missiles on following shots.
A small number of German defensive positions in Normandy were determined
to be telephone poles.
The Japanese painted some of their flattops with fake turrets on the
flight deck, to decieve aerial spotters.
Present. US subs carry noisemakers, to eject out rear and attract sonar
guided torps and also a torpedo that duplicates the subs engine sounds,
and maybe more.
The russians have a kelt missile that gives the radar image of a
badger or backfire ( I forget)..
There was a comment on depth charges effects on torps. They might cut
the control wires. Not all torps go active until they attain a certain
