[sci.military] Soviet nuke accident

I read and heard that the Soviets have lost a "Mike"
attack-sub off the coast of Norway. From what I heard the boat
surfaced and some men got off, and waited for help (Kirov
class cruiser + others). A Norwegian Orion took pictures of
the incident.

Where does a Mike fit in the USSR inventory? I would assume
that it is newer than a November, maybe near an Alfa. Also,
what was the class of the Soviet sub we were diving to
study/etc in the mid-late 70's. (Glomar Explorer?? for
recovery?)
