From: dee@linus.UUCP (David E. Emery) There's an article in "Defense News" this week (5/23) about a severe thunderstorm that apparently trashed Fort Hood. The slant of the article was the extreme damage done to the Apache fleet at Ft Hood (about 1/3 of the total Army inventory). They had a picture of a bunch of AH-64's blown over on their side. Apparently many of them can't be easily fixed. The article continues by saying this disaster may sevrely impact the Army's Aviation Master Plan, as they move money around to rebuild the existing helicopters. Although the storm was not officially labelled a tornado, it "touched down" right in the middle of the AH-64 "parking lot". The article also said 20% of the buildings on Fort Hood were destroyed, and estimates of damage range from $500m to $1b. dave emery emery@mitre.org
