A12 information:

Lockheed received a contract from the Air Force for a reconnaissance
aircraft to replace the U-2 on August 29th 1959, the first flight of this
aircraft (designated the A-12) occurred on April 26th 1962.
(some sources identify this aircraft though as the A-11)

Later versions of the A-12 were modified to carry a 43-ft long
pilotless reconnaissance drone designated the GTD-21

A further interceptor version of the A-12 designated the YF-12A was
developed, and designed to carry air-air missiles (usually 8 AIM-47 AAMs)
or an ASAT missile.

A third and final version of the A-12 was developed and designated the SR-71
which first flew on December 22nd 1964.
