I just thought that I would share this with some of you since all we usually ever see about auto repair places is negative. I recently bought a used car from a buddy of mine. Really mint. A 1977 Olds Cutlass with 66,000 miles. It seems that about a couple of months ago, his wife put the emergency brake pedal to the floor and the cable or something broke. Anyway when I bought it, he told me about the problem and recommended I take it to a local Olds dealer he had done business with. Upon inspection of the rear wheels, I was told that my brakes were within a few thousand miles of needing to be replaced. Well I found out that this car had had a break job done only 20,000 miles before ...(however, it had been 4 YEARS AGO!!)..., so I decided to call the place and see what they had to say. To my surprise, I was told that they offered no real warranty, but always took good care of their customers. After inspecting the rear wheels, I was told that I was right, and that they would replace the rear shoes...NO CHARGE! The two fellas that I talked to were also the owners and they've been there since 1956. A subsequent investigation has revealed that many of my friends are satisfied customers. I am recommending this place to anyone who needs any kind of automotive work short of body and fender. It's name is J & C (Joe and Chuck) Auto Service at 821 Ogden ave. in Downers Grove, Illinois.

I haven't been there in several years, but the mechanic used to be John Deveau. He's one of the most helpful and reliable mechanics I've ever dealt with. Although there were occasionally problems which had to be taken back a couple of times (and just how bug-free is your code the first time around?), he always stood behind his work. And many's the time he saw to it that I got a ride somewhere when my car was out of commission. Near my current abode, try Last Resort Automotive on Alcatraz Ave. in Berkeley, Calif. Also helpful and reliable. I keep telling him that his prices are too low, but he just won't raise them. However, he does have a waiting list, so schedule in advance. {allegra,amd70,cbosgd,dsd,dual, harpo,hpda,ihnp4,megatest,nsc, oliveb,sri-unix,twg,varian,VisiA,wdl1}!fortune!mbr

John Deveau at Stow Amoco near Maynard Mass is very good. I know many people that would not think of taking their autos anywhere else. By the way John (Sr) is also the owner of the place so he CARES. -- [decvax!genrad!]marc smith GenRad, Inc. Bolton Mass
