[sci.military] Duplex rounds- a little history

The idea of duplex rounds are not new. During the civil war era (and possibly
the Revolutionary war, I'm not really sure of the exact time) a popular round
was the "Buck and Ball". The rifle was loaded with a strong powder charge,
some buckshot, and then the normal size ball for the rifle. This created a
very effective duplex shot for close range, especially when it took quite a
while to reload a rifle (even with paper cartriges..)
