a single U.S. aircraft during combat?  Describe the aircraft and the mission

I believe a Phantom II on a fighter sweep in Vietnam shot down four
NVAF MiGs.  If memory serves correctly, three with Sidewinder missiles
and one with cannon fire.  (This is, of course, drawn from memory of a
one paragraph description of the story I last saw about seven years
ago...)
