There has been a discussion going on on rec.autos for a couple of weeks
on a new laser speed measuring device put out by International Measurement
and Control in Littleton Colorado. The device uses speed of light and
reutn time of an IR beam pulse to measure a cars distance at a few
different times and determaine its velocity. I have tried to find
out a much as I could about it, in the past few weeks. I know it is
in the IR frequency range and that this company makes range finders
for the military. I am interested in the frequency of IR it uses
The info on military range finders is that they use 1.5 um (micrometers)
for one handheld model. DOes anyone know what frequencies these things
use and their reflection characteristics(specificly do they reflect
off of or go through glass.). The infared data on glass that I have
shows that ordinary car window glas absorbs anything longer than 5 um.
Also does anyone know what IR frequency(or wavelength) that IR based
remote controls for TV's, etc. use?
