In a recent book on the history of the development of RADAR (I think its called "Race at the Edge of Time", I'll look for it tomorrow.), it stated that one plane claimed shooting at something but no aircraft were downed (on either "side"). Anyone have any additional input? The "Battle of Barking Creek" occurred when a sortie was launched agaist two "unidentified" planes. However the initial RADAR sites could not distinguish "mirror image" locations behind the antenna from those in front. Each intercept mission was seen as additional incomming aircraft (presumed hostile) until almost the entire RAF was in the air. Reminds me of the first time BMEWS saw a rising moon. Robert I. Eachus
