[sci.military] The Fatal Decisions - any good?

cdr@amdcad.amd.com (Carl Rigney) (09/07/89)

In a local bookstore I've run across the 1956 1st edition of _The Fatal
Decisions_ edited by William Richardson & Seymour Freich, subtitled
_Six Decisive Battles of the Second World War from the Viewpoint of the
Vanquished_, translated from the German. Has anyone heard of this, or
the editors? Is it any good? I'm tempted to get it, if only for Fritz
Bayerlein's perspective on El Alamein, but $35 is a little steep.

More generally, I never heard from anyone regarding the Marine
Recommended Reading List. One of the most useful aspects of
sci.military for me has been the book recommendations. Anyone
interested in putting together our own bibliography of 100 Great
Military Books? If so, mail suggestions to me and I'll collate.
A short paragraph about just why the book belongs would be good, too.
