4th Panzer division reaches the southwest suburbs of Warsaw, but are
driven back by Polish counterattacks. Nonetheless, the Polish Armies
of Pomorze, Poznan, Lodz, Krakow, and Prusy are now cut off from
retreat and in imminent danger of encirclement. 4th Panzer has
advanced 225 km in the first week of the war. Civilians are hard
at work digging trenches on the outskirts of Warsaw.

The British government lays plans for a three-year war.

The French air force (l'Armee de l'Air) sees combat, engaging 5
Me-109's with a like number of Curtiss Hawks; two Messerschmitts
are shot down.
